Lucknow, May 20: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has sharply criticized opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for his derogatory comments directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This criticism came during a visit to Lucknow on Wednesday night.
Yadav stated, “It is extremely unfortunate that such remarks are coming from the leader of the opposition. This is an insult to our democratic system.” Gandhi had stirred controversy while addressing a ‘Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha’ held in memory of local revolutionary Veer Pasi, where he urged supporters to confront RSS workers.
During the event, Rahul Gandhi used offensive language against PM Modi and Amit Shah. In response, CM Mohan Yadav emphasized that democracy relies on two key positions: the ruling party led by the Prime Minister and the opposition led by its leader.
He added, “It is completely understandable when someone engages in significant policy discussions or questions government policies. However, the kind of rhetoric Rahul Gandhi is using makes me believe he should resign from his position.” Yadav also called for the Congress party to take disciplinary action against their senior leader.
The Chief Minister remarked, “The manner in which Rahul Gandhi is debating is certainly not in line with the spirit of democracy.” He acknowledged that criticizing government policies is legitimate in a democracy, but using derogatory language against the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and RSS goes beyond political discourse.
Yadav stated, “Gandhi’s remarks are not only an attack on individuals but also an affront to democratic institutions.” He further noted that the position of the opposition leader is constitutional, and they should maintain decorum in public debates.
During the event in Lucknow, Rahul Gandhi accused the RSS, PM Modi, and Amit Shah of orchestrating attacks on India’s constitutional framework, urging supporters to directly challenge RSS workers on this issue. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned these comments, with several leaders accusing Rahul Gandhi of lowering the standard of political discourse.
