Lok Sabha Speaker peeved at Oppn for bringing placards in House

New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday afternoon gave a stern warning to the members, who were creating ruckus, for obstructing the proceedings of the House. He said that members raising slogans and carrying placards would not be allowed to be part of the proceedings of the House.

Lok Sabha proceedings began at 2 pm on Monday. At the beginning of the proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker, on behalf of the House, congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the Silver medal in the World Athletic Championship. Along with this, he also mentioned about the new President and said that with Droupadi Murmu becoming the President, a new energy has been created in the country and a new joy has been born.

After the Speaker’s mention, several members of the Opposition came to the center of the House with placards when the Question Hour began. Opposition was raising inflation and cooking gas and other issues. The Speaker urged the members to maintain the dignity of the House. He said that this manner of members is not right in the temple of democracy. People will have confidence in the House if it functions smoothly, he said.

A little later, Speaker once again urged the opposition members to hold discussions on their issues after the Question Hour. He said that the people of the country want the House to run but the House cannot run in this manner, Opposition will get ample opportunity after the Question Hour to express its views. As the commotion continued, Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 3 pm and said that now the Opposition will have the right to raise placards and slogans only outside the House.
