Light to Moderate Rain Expected in Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu Over Next Six Days

Chennai, August 26: The Regional Meteorological Center has predicted light to moderate rain in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu over the next six days.

According to the weather department, favorable conditions for rainfall are developing in the Western Ghats starting Wednesday. This rainy spell is expected to provide some relief from the current daytime heat in various parts of the state. Typically, rainfall occurs in these districts when moisture-laden winds collide with the elevated terrain. Given the current meteorological conditions, intermittent rain is anticipated during the forecast period. However, the department has not indicated a likelihood of heavy rainfall.

In addition to the Western Ghats, moderate rain may occur in parts of Madurai, Shivgangai, and Ramanathapuram districts on Wednesday. Cloud cover is expected to persist during the day in these southern districts, with occasional rainfall. The amount of rain will vary across the three districts, with some areas experiencing moderate rain while others may see light rain or remain mostly dry. The intensity and duration of the rainfall will depend on local weather conditions. Moderate rain is also likely in Chennai on Wednesday.

The weather department stated that due to increased cloud cover and the possibility of rain, the daytime temperature in the city is expected to be relatively lower. This rain could provide temporary relief from the humid weather in the state capital. While cloud cover may help regulate temperatures, humidity is likely to persist, especially when it is not raining.

Drivers and travelers in Chennai and the southern districts are advised to exercise caution if visibility decreases due to rain or if water accumulates on the roads. Those passing through the Western Ghats and nearby areas should also stay updated on local weather conditions, as rainfall can vary significantly even over short distances in hilly regions.

The department will monitor changing weather conditions and will issue updated forecasts if there are significant changes in the intensity or spread of the rain. Farmers and residents in areas expecting rainfall are advised to pay attention to official weather information during these six days. According to the forecast, some parts of Western and Southern Tamil Nadu will experience rain, while Chennai is expected to have cooler weather with intermittent rain on Wednesday.
