Chennai, February 15: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Chennai has indicated a possibility of a low-pressure area forming in the southeastern Bay of Bengal next week.
According to the weather bulletin released by the department, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently present over the equatorial region of the eastern Indian Ocean and adjacent southeastern Bay of Bengal.
As a result of this system, a low-pressure area is expected to develop around February 16 in the southern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean.
This development may impact the weather in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the coming days. The weather department has forecasted dry conditions in these regions from February 15 to 18.
However, light rain is likely at one or two locations in Tamil Nadu on February 19 and 20. While widespread rainfall is not anticipated at this time, local weather changes may occur depending on the system’s speed and intensity.
Officials are closely monitoring the developments in the Bay of Bengal and have advised fishermen and coastal residents to keep an eye on updated forecasts.
Meanwhile, moderate fog conditions are expected in several northern districts of Tamil Nadu. On February 15, moderate fog is likely to affect Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts.
On February 16, similar fog conditions are expected to persist in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu, potentially extending to Villupuram and Cuddalore districts.
The weather department has warned that fog in the early morning hours may reduce visibility, impacting road transport, particularly on highways and suburban areas. Drivers are advised to exercise caution while driving.
Officials stated that further information will be released based on any changes in the low-pressure system. Residents are encouraged to follow official advisories for timely updates on significant changes in weather patterns.
