Kolkata, May 8: Former tennis star and BJP leader Leander Paes stated that ‘dirty politics’ has hindered West Bengal’s development. He made these comments just days before the state assembly elections, after joining the BJP.
Paes expressed his condolences regarding the murder of Chandranath Rath, the aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. He said, “My heart goes out to his family, those responsible for his safety, and everyone around him.”
He emphasized that the people of Bengal are united and live harmoniously, but the ongoing ‘dirty politics’ is evident. The recent events following the election results on May 4 clearly illustrate why Bengal has not progressed and why it has been denied the opportunity to do so.
Paes credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the BJP’s anticipated victory in Bengal. He noted that when he joined the party six weeks ago, he highlighted the necessity of a ‘double engine’ government, which they have now achieved.
He expressed gratitude for the partnerships he has formed throughout his career and life, stating that he feels fortunate to serve the people under Modi’s leadership.
