Lawmaker Urges Fire Safety Measures for High-Rise Buildings in Greater Noida

Noida, May 2: Dheerendra Singh, the legislator from Jewar, presented a formal request to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, advocating for enhanced fire safety measures in high-rise areas of Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad. He expressed deep concern over recent fire incidents in these regions.

Singh highlighted that there have been multiple fire outbreaks in various high-rise neighborhoods of Greater Noida West and Ghaziabad. Thousands of families reside in these multi-story buildings, where limited access for the fire department exacerbates the situation.

He noted that existing fire resources are unable to effectively reach upper floors, posing a significant risk to lives and property in emergencies. Singh pointed out that while the number of high-rise apartments is rapidly increasing in developing areas like Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad, fire safety measures have not kept pace.

Describing recent incidents as a warning, he emphasized the urgent need for concrete and effective actions. In his letter to the Chief Minister, he proposed several key recommendations, including the provision of high-capacity fire tenders and hydraulic platforms (sky lifts) capable of reaching 30 to 40 floors.

Additionally, he called for mandatory regular inspections and certifications of fire safety systems, such as sprinklers, fire alarms, and smoke detectors in all high-rise buildings. Singh also demanded strict enforcement of fire safety audits and severe penalties for non-compliance.

He stressed the importance of conducting regular mock drills and awareness programs for residents and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to ensure proper responses during emergencies. Furthermore, he highlighted the need to improve the fire department’s readiness and response times.

Singh asserted that this issue is directly linked to the safety of millions, making it essential to formulate and implement effective short- and long-term policies. The Chief Minister acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and assured that necessary directives would be issued to the relevant departments.
