Kunal Ghosh Criticizes BJPs Rally as Political Misstep in Kolkata

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh condemns BJPs rally, claiming it undermines democracy and highlights political bias in Bengal.

Kolkata, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Kunal Ghosh, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and serving MLA, has launched a sharp critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding their recent rally titled “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” in Kolkata. He asserted that the BJP’s actions reveal their panic and are ultimately detrimental to their political standing.

Ghosh highlighted that by advocating for the preservation of democracy, the BJP is inadvertently admitting that democratic processes in West Bengal are under threat. He argued that it is the opposition’s responsibility to champion democracy, especially in light of concerns raised about electoral integrity since the last elections. He pointed out that voters in the region have become increasingly aware of vote manipulation, alleging that central forces have been misused to exclude genuine voters from the electoral process.

The TMC leader referenced a recent gathering at Ramleela Maidan, where the entire opposition united in solidarity. He claimed that the BJP’s subsequent rally was a reaction to this show of unity, labeling it a sign of their anxiety and a political “own goal.”

Addressing specific incidents, Ghosh mentioned the Chorabagan case, where all three political parties had peacefully protested outside the Girish Park police station simultaneously. He noted that the protests did not obstruct public movement, yet an FIR was filed solely against the TMC, which he deemed biased and unjust.

On the contentious Babri Masjid issue, Ghosh reiterated the TMC’s longstanding opposition to the demolition of the mosque by the BJP. He criticized the BJP for exploiting this sensitive topic for political gain, claiming it has significant implications on the political landscape.

Ghosh also spoke about Nandan, Kolkata’s cultural hub, which was established under the leadership of Jyoti Basu and Buddhadeb Bhattacharya during the Left Front government. He accused the BJP of politically manipulating the narrative surrounding Nandan’s history and renovations, asserting that the removal of nameplates there is driven by a vendetta rather than historical accuracy.

In summary, Ghosh’s remarks underscore a growing tension between the TMC and BJP in West Bengal, as both parties navigate the complex political landscape leading up to future elections.
