Ktaka govt gives Rs 25 lakh cheque to Harsha’s family

Shivamogga, March 7 : Karnataka RDPR Minister KS Eshwarappa, along with former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, met family members of the slain Hindu activist Harsha and handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh as compensation. Harsha was hacked to death on February 20. The BJP government in the state had announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family on March 3. Apart from this, an online campaign has raised Rs 60 lakh plus in the account of Harsha’s mother, which was revealed by Eshwarappa. The 28-year-old Harsha was stabbed multiple times, forcing the district administration to impose prohibitory orders on the night of February 20. Next day, violence broke out in the district where instances of arson and stone-pelting during the funeral procession were reported. Following these incidents, the district administration had closed schools and colleges. On February 28, schools and colleges were reopened amid prohibitory orders. Chief Minister Basabaraj Bommai earlier had said the investigating agencies would ascertain invisible hands behind murder. The police have arrested 10 persons so far. Congress leader Salim Ahmed, in a surprise move, demanded ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). Many BJP leaders also demanded their ban. BDN SY 1234
