Kolkata, May 7: Tensions remain high in West Bengal following post-election violence. Amidst this unrest, misleading information is circulating on social media. The Kolkata Police have clarified that an advisory regarding Section 144 in several areas of the capital is false and misleading.
Reports of Section 144 being enforced in areas like Khidirpur and Topsia have been shared widely on social media, claiming it was issued by the Kolkata Police Headquarters. However, the Kolkata Police have labeled this advisory as fake and deceptive.
In a statement on the social media platform ‘X’, the police wrote, “This advisory is false and misleading. The law and order situation under the Kolkata Police’s jurisdiction is completely normal and is being closely monitored.”
The post further stated, “Strict legal action is being initiated against those spreading such false information in the name of the Kolkata Police Commissioner.” The police urged citizens to rely solely on verified information from official sources.
It is noteworthy that the recent assembly election results in West Bengal saw the BJP emerge victorious, while the TMC was ousted from power after 15 years. Following this electoral defeat, several violent incidents have occurred in various regions of the state. Last night, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s aide, Chandranath Rath, was shot dead in Barasat.
According to reports, Chandranath was shot in the Madhyagram area. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby Diversity Nursing Home with the help of local residents, but succumbed to his injuries en route. TMC workers have been accused of involvement in the murder.
