Mohali, March 4 : Former India captain Virat Kohli crossed 8000 runs mark in his 100th Test on Day 1 of the first game against Sri Lanka here on Friday. Kohli achieved the feat when he took a single off Vishwa Fernando with a neat steer through point. He became the second batter in history to reach 8000 runs in 100th Test. Before him, Australia’s Ricky Ponting notched up a ton in his 100th Test against South Africa at Sydney in 2006. Kohli also became the sixth batter to achieve the milestone of scoring 8000 Test runs for India in 169 innings. The other Indian batters to wear this feather in their hats were Sachin Tendulkar (154 innigs), Rahul Dravid (157), Virender Sehwag (160), S l Gavaskar (166) and VVS Laxman (201). Earlier, Kohli was presented with a special cap by his childhood hero and now team India head coach Dravid ahead of the Mohali Test. He also joined the elite club of Tendulkar, Dravid, Gavaskar, Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ishant Sharma to play a century of Tests.
