KL Rahul Struggles Again as Jadeja Shines in Ranji Trophy Action

Vijayawada, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : India’s star batsman KL Rahul faced another disappointing outing in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, playing for Karnataka. In a Group B match against Andhra in Vijayawada, he was dismissed cheaply for just one run in the second innings, having scored only four runs in the first.

On a brighter note, fellow Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja made headlines with an impressive century and took three wickets in a Group B match against Chhattisgarh in Rajkot. Meanwhile, Karnataka is struggling against Andhra, with their score at 176 for 4 by the end of the third day, only 32 runs ahead. Karun Nair, who remains unbeaten on 81, is providing crucial support, while captain Smaran Ravichandran has contributed 21 runs. Rahul’s dismissal and Mayank Agarwal’s meager total of 18 runs have left the team in a precarious position.

With one day left in the match, Karnataka needs a miracle for victory. If the match ends in a draw, they could secure a maximum of one point due to their first innings deficit. Andhra, on the other hand, stands to gain six points if they win, having scored 418 runs in their first innings compared to Karnataka’s 274.

Jadeja, who scored 102 runs in the first innings, showcased his bowling skills as well, taking three wickets for 40 runs, which helped dismiss Chhattisgarh for 312 runs. By the end of the third day, Saurashtra had reached 45 runs without losing a wicket in their second innings, aiming for victory or at least three points.

In other matches, Punjab is struggling against Assam in New Chandigarh, finishing the third day at 287 for 5, still 86 runs behind. Salil Arora and Imanjot Singh Chahal remain unbeaten at 25 and 28 runs, respectively. In Group A, Madhya Pradesh has posted 151 for 5 against defending champions Jammu and Kashmir, with Shubham Sharma not out on 51, giving his team a lead of 227 runs.

In Nagpur, Puducherry’s first innings collapsed for 313 runs against Vidarbha, despite solid half-centuries from Ritesh Gudge (95), Mohit Kale (78), and Nikhil Gangta (54). Vidarbha ended the day at 22 for 1, leading by 137 runs.

Goa has been asked to follow on and ended the day at 35 for 1, trailing Baroda by 238 runs after being bowled out for 199. Uttar Pradesh secured a convincing victory over Bihar by an innings and 267 runs. In Group C, Delhi ended the day at 101 for 3, still 88 runs behind Bengal, who scored 429 runs in their first innings thanks to Abhishek Porel’s 149 and Sudip Gharami’s 133.

Kerala finds itself in a tough spot, with their score at 269 for 6 in response to Jharkhand’s 587 runs. Maharashtra leads Services by 172 runs, finishing the day at 66 for 5 after dismissing Services for 227. Odisha concluded the day against Gujarat at 119 for 4, holding a slight lead of four runs despite Gujarat’s first innings advantage of 115 runs.

In Group D, Mumbai achieved a remarkable victory over Chandigarh by an innings and 155 runs, while Rajasthan ended the day at 81 for 4, leading Tamil Nadu by 170 runs. Railways are trailing by 158 runs against Uttarakhand, finishing the day at 34 for 0 after being bowled out for 278 in the first innings. Haryana is nearing victory against Himachal Pradesh, needing just 45 more runs, having bowled out the opposition for only 113 runs in their second innings.
