Patna, February 11: JD(U) leader Khalid Anwar has expressed support for the central government’s new guidelines regarding the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, stating that it is a patriotic government and no Indian should have an issue with it.

According to the government’s guidelines, the duration of the national song is set at 3 minutes and 10 seconds. It is mandatory to stand during the performance of the national song, which will precede the national anthem. Schools will begin their sessions with the national song.

Anwar emphasized that singing the national song and anthem should not be a point of contention. He believes that every Indian will stand during the national song. He remarked that Indians traditionally stand for the national anthem and that the national song should not be politicized. He questioned the problem if the song is played at the state level.

He further stated that ‘Vande Mataram’ is deeply connected to India’s soul and is the voice of the nation’s conscience. During the struggle for independence, freedom fighters often chanted ‘Vande Mataram’. He asserted that this song belongs to the entire country, not to any political party.

RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav commented that while people stand for the national anthem, they should also stand for the national song. He noted that respect for the tricolor is universal. Although the tradition of standing for the national song was not previously established, he believes that once the government makes it mandatory, the public will accept it legally. However, he raised the question of why such a requirement was necessary.

Yadav concluded that if the government mandates standing, compliance will follow. The national anthem has become ingrained in the fabric of society since independence, and people instinctively stand when the national tune plays.
