Keralas Chief Minister Selection Suspense Nears End as Congress Leaders Gather in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 11: The suspense surrounding the next Chief Minister of Kerala is expected to conclude soon. The Congress high command is intensifying discussions in New Delhi, with indications that a final announcement could be made within the next 48 hours.

After days of uncertainty and rising tensions within various factions of the party, Congress leadership has taken steps towards finalizing a consensus candidate for the CM position.

Central to these crucial discussions are Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, who engaged in talks about the CM face on Monday.

It is believed that Rahul Gandhi has also consulted his sister and Wayanad MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while further consultations with coalition partners are expected before a final decision is made.

Meanwhile, the high command has summoned several senior state Congress leaders and unit presidents to Delhi, signaling that leadership is now in the final stages of consultation.

Senior leaders including K. Sudhakaran, K. Muraleedharan, MM Hassan, and Thiruvananthapuram Radhakrishnan are expected to arrive in the national capital by Monday night.

This round of discussions comes at a time when KC Venugopal is emerging as a leading candidate for the Chief Minister position. Sources indicate that discussions under the direct supervision of the high command are showing increasing support for Venugopal. However, leadership remains cautious about managing conflicting interests within the state unit before making an official announcement.

Insiders suggest that the Congress leadership believes that coalition partners will not oppose the CM face once it is declared by the party. Reports indicate that coalition partners have communicated to the high command that the party is free to choose its leader.

Leadership is now working swiftly to complete the final round of consultations, and signals from Delhi suggest that this long-standing suspense may soon come to an end.

Following this decision, a meeting of the Congress legislative party is likely to be convened, where the new Chief Minister will be formally announced. It is noteworthy that the party has also ruled out the possibility of creating the position of Deputy Chief Minister.
