Kerala CM V.D. Satheesan Pays Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi, Remembers Him as a Gentle and Visionary Leader

Thiruvananthapuram, May 21: Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. He described Gandhi as a gentle, affectionate, and visionary leader, stating that his martyrdom is a heartbreaking event in the country’s history that will be remembered for generations to come.

While addressing a memorial service organized by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, CM Satheesan remarked, “Today marks Rajiv’s death anniversary. His passing is a poignant memory that will remain in our hearts and minds as long as we live. He sacrificed his life for this country. After witnessing his mother’s lifeless body riddled with bullets, he became the Prime Minister of India. Even after seeing his mother’s bloodied body, he took on the leadership of India.”

V.D. Satheesan emphasized that Rajiv Gandhi symbolized the leadership of a new generation. He made unprecedented efforts to propel the country into the modern era. His gentle demeanor allowed him to connect warmly with everyone, fostering heartfelt relationships. On the international stage, he strengthened India’s image and established amicable relations with world leaders.

The Chief Minister highlighted the achievements during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, stating, “He wished for not just the present but also future generations to witness a better India. He implemented tax reforms, revolutionized the telecommunications sector, and laid a strong foundation for infrastructure development. He believed that good roads and modern infrastructure are the bedrock of a nation’s progress.”

V.D. Satheesan noted that Rajiv Gandhi dedicated his life to the nation. While paying homage to his sacred memory, he inaugurated the memorial service.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. He was only 46 years old at the time of his death. His tenure marked the beginning of the computer and information technology revolution in India, playing a crucial role in modernizing the country.

The event saw a large turnout of Kerala Congress workers and leaders, who remembered Rajiv Gandhi. CM Satheesan urged the younger generation to contribute to building a modern, prosperous, and united India, as envisioned by Rajiv Gandhi.
