Kochi, May 11: In an impressive display, Kerala Blasters FC secured a 3-1 victory against Mohun Bagan at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Indian Super League 2025-26 on Sunday. This win extends their unbeaten streak to five matches in the ISL.
Francisco Fuyilasier, Victor Bertomeu, and Shrikuttan MS scored for the home team, while Mahitosh Roy initially gave the visitors a brief lead. Fuyilasier was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
Kerala Blasters started aggressively, maintaining possession and launching continuous attacks on Mohun Bagan’s defense. Midfielder Kevin Yoke was particularly effective on the left flank, creating multiple scoring opportunities. However, the visiting team held firm initially, with goalkeeper Padam Chhetri making several remarkable saves, including a one-handed stop against Yoke’s header midway through the half.
Despite Kerala’s dominance, Mohun Bagan struck first in the 42nd minute. Mahitosh Roy seized the ball in midfield, surged forward, and unleashed a powerful shot from about 20 yards that found the top corner, giving the visitors the lead.
However, this advantage was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Kerala equalized through Fuyilasier, who intercepted a precise through ball from Yoke and calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner before halftime.
In the second half, Kerala Blasters resumed play with renewed energy, controlling the game’s tempo. Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Yoke created another opportunity, delivering a pinpoint cross to Bertomeu, who headed the ball into the net, putting the home team ahead.
Kerala extended their lead in the 74th minute with a well-coordinated play. Fuyilasier flicked the ball inside the box, where Shrikuttan was perfectly positioned to slot it into the net, making the score 3-1.
Mohun Bagan’s hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 86th minute when Amarjeet Singh received a second yellow card and was sent off. With only ten players left, it became increasingly difficult for the visitors to penetrate Kerala’s organized defense. The home team managed the final moments of the match with ease, maintaining possession and controlling the pace to secure their victory.
Following this result, Ashley Westwood’s team climbed to eighth place in the standings with 14 points from 12 matches, while Mohun Bagan remains at the bottom with just three points from 11 games. The future of Meherajuddin Vadu’s team now hinges on the outcome of Chennaiyin FC’s match later today. If Chennaiyin FC earns even a single point, Mohun Bagan will be relegated to the lower league for the next season.
