Kathua Railway Station Renamed After Martyr Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary

The Narendra Modi-led central government has officially renamed the Kathua railway station in Jammu and Kashmir. The station will now be known as Martyr Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary Kathua Railway Station, in honour of the fallen hero.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed the name change and expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in the process.

Dr. Singh shared the update on the social media platform X, stating that the renaming was done following public demand to commemorate Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, a son of the soil and a martyr.

He thanked Prime Minister Modi for promptly approving the request and acknowledged the assistance of Amit Shah and Ashwini Vaishnaw in facilitating the official procedures.

This move follows a similar renaming last year when the Ahmednagar station in the Pune division of Central Railway was renamed to Ahilyanagar Railway Station. The change was made to pay tribute to Lokmata Ahilya Bai Holkar, as per a notification by the Maharashtra government and the letter from India’s Chief Surveyor. Notably, the station code remained unchanged despite the renaming.

The renaming of Kathua railway station is seen as a tribute to Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary’s sacrifice and a recognition of his contribution to the nation.
