Kashmir valley receives fresh snowfall, rains

Srinagar, March 7 : Upper catchments of Kashmir valley including ski resort of Gulmarg experienced a fresh snowfall while plains were lashed by rains disrupting normal life on Monday. Meteorological Department forecast of Light to Moderate Rain and snow likely to occur at scattered places over Jammu and Kashmir while widespread light to moderate rain, snow and traces will occur during the next 24 hours. From March 8 to 13, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with chances of occasional light rain and Snow over higher reaches. There’s “NO” forecast of any significant weather till March 13, the MET office said. The sky resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received a fresh snowfall on Monday. It was still snowing in the tourist spot till the last reports came in. Reports of snowfall were also received from Gurez in Bandipora district and Zojila pass on Srinagar-Ladakh national highway. Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains since early Monday triggered cold conditions and disrupting normal life. It was still raining in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was recorded a low of 7.3 degree Celsius which was 3.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season. Gulmarg has a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius and it also received 4.6mm rainfall and 5.0 cms of snowfall till 0830 hours on Monday. The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara has a low of 4.6 degree Celsius and it also received 11.7mm of rainfall till 0830hours on Monday. Pahalgam has a low of 4.6 degree Celsius, Kokernag 1.9 degree Celsius and Qazigund 6.7 degree Celsius on Monday. QAB SY 1300
