Karnataka Political Murders: BJP Welcomes Court Ruling in Congress MLAs Case

Bengaluru, April 17: The recent court ruling in the murder case of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda has been welcomed by R. Ashoka, the leader of the opposition and a Congress MLA, who believes it marks a significant step in curbing politically motivated killings in Karnataka.

Ashoka stated, “This serves as a clear example of the consequences when crimes are committed under political protection. Had this case not been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), it would have been buried by the police.”

He emphasized that all facts are now out in the open and the culprits have been identified. The court has acknowledged that Vinay Kulkarni was behind this murder, a ruling that he believes will help prevent political assassinations.

Ashoka also noted that two key witnesses provided crucial testimony in this case. It is important to mention that a special court for cases involving legislators and parliamentarians had completed final arguments regarding the quantum of punishment, with the verdict reserved for Friday.

On the issue of language, Ashoka criticized the state government for not having a clear policy before students began learning Hindi. He remarked, “There was no need to create a ‘Tughlaq-like’ situation during examinations. I have been a Kannada activist myself and was injured during the lathi charge in the Gokak movement.”

He pointed out that Kannada is widely spoken in areas like Hosur and Kasaragod, but its lack of recognition could lead to issues. He also mentioned that in Urdu schools, the curriculum follows a sequence of Urdu, then English, and finally Kannada, highlighting the increasing need for a three-language formula.

Ashoka further criticized the state government, stating that there is still uncertainty regarding the chief minister’s position. He said, “Everyone is heading to Delhi, rendering the government ineffective. Every minister’s son is claiming his father is the chief minister, as if there is a cabinet in every household.”

He claimed that Muslim leaders in Davanagere are also disillusioned with Congress, and Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan is being targeted. He concluded, “The entire party and government are in a state of confusion. If elections were held today, an NDA government led by the BJP would emerge.”
