Karnataka HC asks govt to stop protests in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 3 : In a suo moto case, Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the state government to ensure that protests or processions in the city are held in organised manner only at Freedom Park. The direction comes in the wake of Mekedatu padayatra carried out by Congress in the city today. The march is being carried out to demand early implementation of the Mekedatu project, which is a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In case any disruption of traffic is caused due to protests or processions, the government should immediately stop it and submit a report to them, Karnataka High Court directed. The public interest litigation was filed based on a letter written to a sitting judge of the High Court, seeking relief from the government to regulate processions and protests to ensure that citizens do not suffer. BJP, Congress and JDS parties are respondents in the case. The hearing has been posted to April first week. BDN SHK2040
