Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), D.K. Shivakumar, celebrated his birthday on Friday with great enthusiasm across the state. Congress leaders and supporters organized special prayers at temples, cake-cutting ceremonies, donation events, and public gatherings. Many leaders openly expressed their hopes that Shivakumar would one day become the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Shivakumar is marking his 64th birthday, and several loyal legislators had previously indicated that the Congress high command might make an announcement regarding the Chief Minister position on this occasion.
He is considered a strong contender for the Chief Minister role and has openly expressed his desire to lead. Shivakumar mentioned that he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would soon be called to Delhi to follow the directives of the party high command.
On Friday, special prayers were held at the Durgamma Temple in Ballari to wish for Shivakumar’s political upliftment in the state. The event was organized by Congress MP E. Tukaram and Anjaneyalu, the Chairman of the Ballari Urban Development Authority. A 65-kilogram cake was cut, and arrangements were made to serve food to over 2,000 attendees.
Speaking to the media, MP Tukaram stated, “We prayed for D.K. Shivakumar’s wishes to be fulfilled.” He indirectly supported Shivakumar’s ambitions for the Chief Minister role, asserting that the Congress high command would resolve leadership issues in Karnataka similarly to how they did in Kerala.
Tukaram remarked, “Just as changes occurred in Kerala, the party high command will address issues in Karnataka. A favorable political environment will emerge in the state in the coming days. The public has given the Congress government a mandate until 2028, and party leaders will collectively decide on leadership matters. After the heat, the rainy season will surely come. Nature itself is on Congress’s side.”
Praising the Congress leadership, he added, “I was an MLA, and the party made me an MP. Everything is happening according to the high command’s decisions.”
Anjaneyalu expressed, “We have prayed for D.K. Shivakumar to become the Chief Minister. We will offer our thanks to the deity once our wish is fulfilled.”
Meanwhile, Shivakumar’s supporters held special prayers at the Chamrajanagar-based Chamrajeshwar Temple, praying for his political success and higher responsibilities in the state.
Karnataka’s Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, along with several Congress leaders, gathered at the Maurya Hotel in Bengaluru to extend birthday wishes to Shivakumar. This event was organized by Congress leader Manohar. Speaking to the media, Ramalinga Reddy congratulated Shivakumar and praised his leadership and contributions to the party and state government.
