Karnataka Chief Minister Shivakumar Attends Historic Jamboo Savari in Mysuru

Karnataka CM Shivakumar joins family for the historic Jamboo Savari parade, marking the conclusion of the grand Dasara festival in Mysuru.

Mysuru, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar arrived in Mysuru with his family on Wednesday to participate in the historic ‘Jamboo Savari’ parade, held at the conclusion of the grand Dasara festival. Upon landing at Mysuru Airport, he received a ‘Guard of Honor.’

The ‘Jamboo Savari’ marks the grand finale of the ten-day Mysuru Dasara celebrations. During this event, the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari is carried in a 750-kilogram golden howdah on the lead elephant. The procession travels a distance of five kilometers from the Mysuru Palace to the Bannimantap grounds, featuring folk artists and various floats.

The highlight of the parade is the sacred idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, seated in the golden howdah atop the leading elephant. Colorful cultural troupes from various districts, along with floats from the state and military, police bands, and marching contingents, add to the spectacle. The procession concludes with a traditional ‘torch parade’ in the outskirts of Bannimantap.

Chief Ministers V.D. Satheesan of Kerala and A. Revanth Reddy of Telangana are also attending the event. Speaking to the media after his arrival, Shivakumar extended his best wishes to those celebrating Dasara and prayed for blessings from Goddess Chamundeshwari.

He expressed hope that the blessings of the Goddess would bring happiness to the many visitors and international tourists attending the grand festivities. He noted that the festival has gained widespread attention through live broadcasts and social media, with young people creating and sharing reels online, extending its reach beyond national borders.

Shivakumar mentioned the significant influx of tourists to Mysuru, which has led to a shortage of accommodation. Many hotels and rooms in Mysuru, neighboring Madikeri, and near Bengaluru are fully booked, causing some inconvenience for visitors.

The Chief Minister assured that the administration has made adequate arrangements to manage traffic during the festival. He also praised the Indian Air Force’s air show and drone display, stating that these contributed to creating a memorable experience for tourists.

He highlighted that feedback from attendees at Wednesday’s celebrations will be valuable for assessing arrangements and improving future events. Referring to the traditional ‘Kambala’ buffalo race, he noted that it has received positive responses. He added that his ministers and legislators have informed him about the favorable feedback regarding this event.

Shivakumar sought the media’s cooperation in ensuring the successful organization of the Dasara festival and its extensive coverage.
