Karnataka Chief Minister Claims Sting Operation Attempted to Trap Him

Bengaluru, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has made serious allegations, claiming that an attempt was made to entrap him through a sting operation shortly after he assumed office. During a press conference in New Delhi, he stated that he possesses photographs and documents to substantiate his claims.

Shivakumar recounted that several individuals approached him after he became Chief Minister. He expressed confidence that he knows the identities of those behind the alleged sting operation. “Since becoming Chief Minister, there has been an attempt to ensnare me. Some individuals came to see me. I have photos, and I know who orchestrated these sting operations,” he asserted.

He referenced a Kannada proverb, highlighting how some individuals act cunningly, as if their wrongdoings go unnoticed. Shivakumar indicated that he is aware of the people involved in the operation and has reported the matter to the police.

“I know all of them. I’ve informed the police and have secured all documents related to those who approached me after I took office,” he said. Although he cannot disclose all details publicly, he affirmed that he is aware of how these individuals contacted him and who they met.

Shivakumar emphasized that he has instructed officials to remain vigilant, as government employees could also be unnecessarily implicated in such sting operations. “I don’t want to respond to others. I’ve advised my officials to be cautious, as they might be drawn into these operations without cause,” he added.

He elaborated that there are three circles of people around him and that some individuals have been hired for the alleged sting operation. “There are three circles around me. Some leaders are behind this, and I have precise information,” he claimed.

Shivakumar accused those involved of targeting him directly, aiming to initiate a sting operation through him. “They have targeted me and want to start a sting operation using me. I have all the evidence to prove this. I do not make baseless claims,” he stated.

Additionally, he mentioned that he is aware of the individuals financing these sting operations and their plans to target others as well. “I know who is behind this and who is providing the money for these operations,” he asserted.

This controversy surrounding alleged sting operations targeting Congress ministers emerged after Shivakumar expressed concerns during a cabinet meeting that the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) might target Congress ministers through similar means.

Central Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy questioned Shivakumar over the alleged sting operation on Wednesday, noting that the Chief Minister had warned his cabinet colleagues to be cautious during their interactions.

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra also accused the Congress party of having a history of conducting sting operations and using them for blackmail. He suggested that this could be confirmed by speaking with the party’s own ministers and legislators.

Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashok, claimed that Shivakumar’s concern over the alleged sting operation stems from his previous involvement in such activities.
