Bagalkot, April 4: Opposition leader R. Ashok launched a strong attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar could take over his position after April 20.
Speaking at a press conference, Ashok expressed uncertainty about Siddaramaiah’s future post-April 20, suggesting that Shivakumar might seize the chief ministership.
He further stated that Siddaramaiah has never indicated a willingness to appoint a Scheduled Tribe leader as chief minister. Given the current uncertainty regarding his position, the likelihood of such an appointment seems low. Former minister Parameshwara is waiting for his chance to become chief minister, but Ashok noted that it remains uncertain whether luck will be on his side.
Ashok pointed out that Siddaramaiah’s true colors were revealed in Mysuru, where he faced defeat in the 2018 assembly elections from the Chamundeshwari seat. Due to an anti-incumbency wave, he had to contest from Badami, where he won by a narrow margin. While Badami’s residents supported him, he opted to leave that seat for the 2023 elections and instead contested from the Varuna seat in Mysuru. Now, he has returned to Bagalkot, but Ashok predicts he will abandon this seat as well.
He questioned Siddaramaiah’s commitment to development, asking how he could promise progress in Bagalkot after his own party’s MLA had been in power for three years without significant achievements.
Ashok also highlighted the development work previously done by former MLA Veeranna Charantimath, asserting that voters would choose him again.
Targeting the Congress government, Ashok accused them of engaging in a power struggle for the chief minister position since taking office. He alleged that 30 scams have occurred in three years, ranging from the Valmiki scam to a purported 60% commission scandal involving contractors. He claimed that a minister had funneled millions through the liquor lobby to Delhi, and there have been no notable achievements in three years. No funds have been allocated for irrigation, and Congress leaders are merely focused on making money.
He concluded by asserting that not a single dam has been constructed, nor has any medical college been established.
