Washington, February 26: Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticized President Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address, labeling it as misleading. She accused Trump of deceiving Americans on issues such as the economy, voting rights, and Iran.
One day after Trump’s speech, Harris appeared on Aaron Parnas’s Substack show, “The Parnas Perspective,” where she stated that Trump’s remarks were disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary families.
Harris dismissed Trump’s claim that the nation’s condition is strong. She remarked, “Many people are burdened by rising prices, expensive healthcare, and costly housing.”
Recalling her recent trips to southern states, she shared a story about a mother in Mississippi whose weekly grocery budget for four was only $150. Harris recounted, “Everything in the cart was for her children. The mother told them that she would eat whatever her kids didn’t.” She noted that the mother had to walk to get bottled water because she couldn’t drink tap water, which was brown and contaminated.
Harris also criticized proposed spending priorities, questioning, “Who is making noise when you cut $1 trillion from Medicaid?”
Regarding voting rights, Harris strongly opposed the Freedom to Vote Act, which Trump urged Congress to pass. She argued that the bill would require individuals to show a birth certificate or passport for voter registration, while nearly 40% of Americans lack these documents.
Harris expressed concern over rising tensions with Iran, stating that U.S. troops are being sent to the region, making it entirely possible for American men and women to be deployed to war.
She added, “The American public does not want war, nor do they want our sons and daughters sent to engage in actions that could be avoided.”
Harris also mentioned that American allies do not agree with the President’s actions, indicating that weakening alliances is not a good sign for national security.
