Raipur, September 1: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal from the Chhattisgarh High Court to the Rajasthan High Court during a meeting held on August 31. Meanwhile, Justice Agrawal will be on leave from judicial duties until September 5.
According to the Chhattisgarh High Court’s website, Sanjay K. Agrawal was born on July 15, 1965, in Ratnapur (Bilaspur) to Virendra and Chameeli Agrawal. He completed his schooling in Ratnapur and earned a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws degree from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, followed by a Master of Laws from Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur.
Justice Agrawal registered as an advocate on January 3, 1989. He practiced law at the District and Sessions Court in Bilaspur, the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur, and the Chhattisgarh High Court, specializing in various areas of law, particularly civil and constitutional matters. He has served as legal counsel for several significant organizations, including the Chhattisgarh High Court, Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (Raipur), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Bar Council of India, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited, State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Dena Bank, and various municipal corporations in Raipur and Bilaspur, as well as other corporations, boards, and authorities of the Chhattisgarh government and prominent corporate groups in India.
Justice Agrawal has been an ex-officio member of the Executive Council of Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), a member of the Indian Law Reports Committee (Chhattisgarh Series), and a member of the editorial board for Chhattisgarh Law Judgments. He has also served as an arbitrator under the Chhattisgarh CPC Alternative Disputes Resolution and Mediation Rules, 2006.
From March 1, 2002, to February 29, 2004, Sanjay K. Agrawal worked as the Deputy Advocate General for the state of Chhattisgarh, and later served as the Advocate General until his promotion on June 25, 2012. He was promoted to Additional Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on September 16, 2013, and took the oath as a regular judge on March 8, 2016.
