New Delhi, August 6: England’s experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has made history by becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. He achieved this milestone during a match between Manchester Super Giants and Welsh Fire in ‘The Hundred’ tournament.
In the match against Welsh Fire, Buttler showcased his exceptional form. He played a blistering innings, scoring 51 runs off just 20 balls, leading Manchester Super Giants to a 9-wicket victory. The team successfully chased down the target of 156 runs with only one wicket lost.
During his innings, Buttler hit 2 fours and 6 sixes. With this performance, he surpassed the record previously held by Kieron Pollard, becoming the leading run-scorer in the shortest format of cricket. Buttler has now amassed 14,833 runs in T20 cricket, overtaking Pollard, who has 14,803 runs. Former West Indies batsman Chris Gayle ranks third with 14,562 runs.
Due to personal reasons, Adam Markram was unavailable for the tournament, allowing Buttler to captain the Manchester Super Giants. Under his leadership, the bowlers delivered an impressive performance, restricting Welsh Fire to a score of 155 runs. Phil Salt contributed significantly for Welsh Fire, scoring 48 runs off 37 balls, while Matthew Short shone with a solid 71 runs from 47 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Besides Buttler, Tim Seifert also excelled for Manchester Super Giants, scoring an unbeaten 62 runs off 36 balls, which included 10 fours. He was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance. Paul Walter added 37 runs off 18 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes.
