Jofra Archer Sets Record for Longest Over in IPL History

Jaipur, May 9: In the 52nd match of IPL 2026, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium. Fast bowler Jofra Archer made headlines by setting a record for the longest first over in IPL history.

Archer bowled a total of 11 deliveries to complete the first over against the Gujarat Titans. This achievement makes him one of the first bowlers in IPL history to deliver the longest over. Previously, bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, Sandeep Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh had also bowled overs consisting of 11 balls. In this over, Archer conceded 18 runs, including four wides and one no-ball. This marked Archer’s most expensive first over in IPL to date.

After losing the toss, the Gujarat Titans batted first, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill providing a strong start. The duo scored 82 runs during the six-over powerplay, setting a record for the highest powerplay score for the Gujarat Titans. This was the sixth time Sudharsan and Gill had formed a century partnership for the first wicket in IPL, making them the joint highest-scoring opening pair in the league’s history. They equaled the record set by David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan, who also achieved six century partnerships. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have also accomplished this feat six times for the first wicket.

For this match, the Gujarat Titans made one change to their playing eleven, bringing in Prasidh Krishna in place of Manav Suthar. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals are playing without their regular captain, Riyan Parag, with Yashasvi Jaiswal taking over the captaincy.
