Jharkhand MLA Pradeep Yadav Sentenced to One Year in Jail, Granted Provisional Bail

Dumka, May 4: The MP-MLA Special Court in Dumka, Jharkhand, sentenced Congress MLA Pradeep Yadav to one year in prison on Monday for his involvement in a 14-year-old case. Special Judge Mohit Chaudhary found him guilty under Section 225 of the Indian Penal Code.

In this case, all other accused, including former BJP MLA Randhir Singh from Sarath, were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Following the sentencing, Yadav’s lawyer, Shankar Basaiwala, applied for provisional bail. The court accepted the application, granting bail for one month on two sureties of ten thousand rupees each.

During this period, the MLA can file an appeal in a higher court. The prosecution presented a total of six witnesses in this case, which dates back to September 15, 2010. At that time, a significant protest led by leaders of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) demanded the declaration of Deoghar as a drought-affected area.

Protesters, led by Pradeep Yadav and Randhir Singh, blocked roads, causing considerable inconvenience to the public. Following the incident, the then Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Labor Enforcement Officer, Sudhir Kumar Modi, registered a case under the Public Property Act. The FIR named 12 individuals and included around 200 unidentified persons as accused.

During the hearing on Monday, Pradeep Yadav and all other accused appeared in court. While Yadav received a sentence, the court acquitted the other defendants due to insufficient evidence.
