Ranchi, April 17: The Jharkhand government has launched a new initiative aimed at modernizing the infrastructure of government medical colleges and hospitals. A high-level expert committee has been formed to enhance the design and planning of these healthcare facilities.
According to the Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare Department, recent inspections revealed that the current designs of many hospitals are inadequate for treatment and operations. Particularly, the conditions of departments such as ICU, operation theaters, emergency services, and radiology have been found lacking, causing difficulties for patients. To address this, the new hospital designs will be scientifically developed, focusing on improving patient and staff flow to minimize delays and unnecessary movement during treatment.
The expert committee includes senior doctors from RIMS, Ranchi. Members include Dr. Hemant Narayan (Cardiology), Dr. Pradeep Kumar Bhattacharya (Critical Care), Dr. Ajit Kumar Dungdung (Medicine), Dr. Anil Kumar Kamal (Surgery), Dr. Anshu Jamaiyar (Pathology), Dr. Anish Kumar Chaudhary (Radiology), and Dr. Gunjesh Kumar Singh from Sadar Hospital.
This committee will review the designs of ongoing and upcoming projects and suggest changes as necessary. Under the new guidelines, related departments such as emergency, ICU, and operation theaters must be located close to each other or on the same floor.
Additionally, plans will be made to position trauma and emergency units on the ground floor near the main entrance, with a separate route for ambulances. Separate lifts and pathways for patients, staff, and equipment will be arranged to reduce the risk of infection.
The committee will also provide input on the construction of academic buildings, hostels, and other facilities in medical colleges. Construction agencies will now be required to present their complete project plans to this committee, and designs will only be finalized after receiving approval. The government believes this initiative will significantly improve the treatment facilities and services in hospitals.
