Thiruvananthapuram, May 5: Following the victory of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Kerala Assembly elections, there is a palpable sense of excitement among party leaders. Congress MP JB Mathar hailed this win as historic, stating that the people of Kerala have bestowed a remarkable mandate upon the UDF.
In an interview, Mathar emphasized, “Now, it is the party’s responsibility to fulfill its promises and guarantees, ensuring the overall development of the state. This victory is the result of several factors, with the anti-incumbency wave being a significant contributor.”
He accused the current government of failing to meet public expectations, leading to growing dissatisfaction among the populace. Mathar specifically targeted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, asserting that mere publicity and image-building do not lead to development; rather, tangible work is what truly makes a difference. The public is now prioritizing real actions over mere appearances and promotions. He noted that displaying images in buses or public spaces to promote government schemes will not win the trust of the people. This time, voters opted for solid work and better governance.
When asked about potential candidates for the Chief Minister position, Mathar stated that the party has no shortage of experienced and capable leaders. A meeting of the legislative party will be convened soon to discuss this matter. Following this, a final decision will be made in the presence of representatives from the All India Congress Committee. He assured that a democratic process will be followed within the party, and any decision made will be accepted by all leaders and workers.
Mathar remarked that this victory is the culmination of a long wait, and the party is now ready to serve the public with full commitment.
Meanwhile, the Congress party’s observer will organize a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) to discuss the selection of the Chief Minister. Currently, three major names are leading the race: KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala.
