Mumbai: Actor Javed Jaffrey is eagerly awaiting the release of his upcoming film ‘Mayasabha’. During the making of this film, he deliberately distanced himself from other projects to give his full attention to it. Jaffrey believes that when an actor gets the opportunity to portray a new character, they should focus solely on that role.
Javed Jaffrey shared, “An actor’s rights are limited. I never cross the boundary to disrespect the writer or director. The writer spends years crafting the script. It is not right to read it once and then say how you will perform or impose your terms. Similarly, the director creates the entire world of the film, and the actor cannot override that.”
He further explained, “I ask questions when necessary — why this happened, why not that. Once I get the right answers, everything falls into place. There should be no ego during work. The director lives with the character and knows why it behaves a certain way. But the actor’s responsibility is to bring the character to life according to the director’s vision. If I have a new idea, I can offer it, but sometimes the director says, ‘This deviates from the track, don’t smile, don’t signal,’ or so on, because such changes can break the character.”
Jaffrey emphasized that an actor must faithfully follow the script and the director’s vision. He immerses himself completely in each project, putting other work on hold to maintain 100 percent focus on the character.
‘Mayasabha’ is a significant film scheduled to release on 30 January. Known for his versatility across genres from comedy to serious roles, Javed Jaffrey will be seen in a distinct avatar in this upcoming movie.
