Bhubaneswar, April 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his joy on Monday and thanked Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, for praising the state’s rich culinary tradition, particularly the nutritious and traditional Odia dish, Dalma.
The Chief Minister posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Ono-san, I am delighted to see you enjoying the flavors of Odisha. Dalma is the heart of our kitchen, and your appreciation is an honor for us. I hope our friendship strengthens through such culinary exchanges.”
He further emphasized that Dalma is not just a part of Odisha’s cuisine but also symbolizes the state’s culture and hospitality.
Majhi noted that such recognition showcases the cultural ties between Odisha and Japan, expressing hope that this friendship will continue to grow in the future.
On April 24, a joint project announcement between JSW Steel and Japan’s JFE Steel took place in Rengali, Sambalpur district of Odisha. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Ambassador Ono Keiichi.
During the program, the Japanese ambassador was served traditional Odia food, including Dalma. After the event, he shared his experience on X, stating, “I enjoyed Dalma in Odisha; it is incredibly delicious and reflects the rich culinary culture of the state.”
Dalma is a highly popular traditional dish in Odisha, deeply connected to the region’s religious traditions and culture. This special dish is made with lentils and various vegetables such as pumpkin, raw papaya, potatoes, and moringa, seasoned with aromatic spices.
Dalma is also an essential part of the offerings made to deities in temples and is prepared during special occasions across nearly every part of the state.
