Jammu, February 26: Jammu Police’s South Zone has made significant strides in recovering stolen and missing property in the first 57 days of 2026. Through various operations, the police have recovered stolen assets valued at approximately ₹90 lakh. This achievement was announced during a press conference at the Gandhi Nagar police station, where the process of returning the recovered items to their rightful owners began.

The police executed three major operations: Reconnect, Avatar, and Meghdoot. The most notable success came from Operation Reconnect, where a small team from the Electronic Surveillance Unit (ESU) recovered 196 missing mobile phones, valued at around ₹68 lakh. Of these, 36 phones were returned to their owners before the press conference, while the remaining 160 will be handed over today after completing legal formalities.

The operation was led by Sergeant Rishi Abrol, who coordinated the success through inter-state collaboration, technical analysis, and continuous tracking based on missing reports filed across Jammu.

In Operation Avatar, the Gandhi Nagar police station resolved a significant motorcycle theft case. Following a complaint by Sergeant Vinay Kumar, an FIR was registered for the theft of his Hero Splendor motorcycle. Inspector Jaipal Sharma, PSI Nadeem Akram, and ASI Pintu Kumar conducted a thorough investigation, analyzing technical data and CCTV footage from the JMC Smart City surveillance network.

During the investigation, two suspects, Mansa Chaudhary and Abdul Rahman, were arrested. Their interrogation led to the recovery of 15 additional stolen two-wheelers, including a Hero Splendor motorcycle, a Pulsar RS200, and a Scooty Pleasure, valued at around ₹12 lakh.

In Operation Meghdoot, the Gandhi Nagar police solved a major salon theft case, arresting one suspect and recovering stolen salon equipment worth approximately ₹10 lakh. The police noted that these operations were made possible through preventive policing, technical surveillance, and effective use of the Smart City CCTV network.
