Jaishankar Engages in Bilateral Talks with Foreign Ministers from Malaysia, Uganda, Cuba, and Iran

New Delhi, May 15: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held bilateral discussions with the foreign ministers of Malaysia, Uganda, Cuba, and Iran on Friday, during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors and strengthening mutual relations.

Jaishankar met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hasan to review the progress of the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also discussed the follow-up actions from agreements made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia earlier this year in February.

On social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed, “It is always a pleasure to meet Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hasan. We reviewed the progress of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the outcomes of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Malaysia this year.”

Additionally, Jaishankar met with Uganda’s Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakhar. They deliberated on enhancing cooperation in critical areas such as food and health security, strengthening technical partnerships, and expanding business relations.

Jaishankar noted on X, “Had a wonderful meeting with Uganda’s Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakhar. Our long-term partnership is continuously progressing. We discussed food and health security, the use of technology, and the strengthening of ties through the Indian community and businesses.”

The External Affairs Minister also engaged in bilateral talks with Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. They reviewed cooperation in areas such as health, development partnerships, and capacity building. An exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for regular diplomatic consultations between the two foreign ministries was also conducted.

Jaishankar remarked, “I was pleased to meet with Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. We discussed cooperation in health, development partnerships, and capacity building. The MoU for regular consultations between our foreign ministries was also exchanged.”

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi. They discussed the current situation in West Asia and its broader implications, as well as bilateral issues of mutual interest.

Jaishankar appreciated the participation of the Iranian Foreign Minister in the BRICS India 2026 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, stating, “Had an extensive discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Delhi. We talked about the situation in West Asia and its implications, along with bilateral issues of interest.”
