Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasens Partnership Proves Crucial in SRHs Victory Over CSK

Chennai, May 19: In a thrilling encounter on Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased an impressive performance, defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets in the 63rd match of IPL 2026. This victory secured SRH a spot in the playoffs. Captain Pat Cummins highlighted the partnership between Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen as a turning point in the match.

After the game, Cummins stated, “It felt really good. It was a bit different from how we usually play. The pitch was quite challenging for batting. I thought the way Klaasen and Ishan chased down the target was truly remarkable, so I’m very pleased. I believe the partnership between Ishan and Klaasen was the match’s turning point. The pitch was tough for batting. We felt that a couple of good partnerships were necessary. Once you settle in, it becomes a bit easier. For a new batsman, the wicket was really difficult, but they chose their match-ups well and played some fantastic shots.”

SRH’s batsmen appeared cautious against CSK. Discussing the team’s batting approach, Cummins remarked, “I wouldn’t say we are known for responsible batting, but perhaps when you ask, you never know. Of course, when we were bowling, we felt the ball was staying a bit low. The ball was gripping, so you couldn’t just go out and play big shots from the first ball. The credit for the win undoubtedly goes to the batsmen; they performed excellently.”

At MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, CSK batted first, scoring 180 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Dewald Brevis played a strong innings, scoring 44 runs off 27 balls, while Kartik Sharma contributed 32 runs from 19 balls. Sanju Samson added 27 runs to the total.

However, SRH chased down the target of 181 runs, losing five wickets in 19 overs. Ishan Kishan delivered a stellar performance, scoring 70 runs off 47 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen made 47 runs off just 26 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. Together, they formed a crucial partnership, adding 75 runs for the third wicket in just 41 balls.
