Iran relents on IAEA inspections

Iran has agreed to give International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to two suspected former nuclear sites near Karaj west of Tehran & near Isfahan in central Iran.

A joint statement said Iran was doing so in good faith to resolve outstanding issues related to nuclear safeguards. The agreement came during a visit to Tehran by the IAEA’s director-general.

The two sides had struck a deal to end a months-long standoff over access to the sites, and that dates for inspections had been agreed. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told IAEA Chief that Iran will continue its cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

Rouhani and Iran’s nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi met IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in Tehran.
