IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Surpass RR and SRH, Still Trail Punjab Kings

Mumbai, May 5: In an exciting match on Monday evening at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. MI triumphed over LSG by 6 wickets, thanks to explosive performances from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. This victory marked MI’s largest chase in the IPL to date.

LSG batted first, scoring 228 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, aided by Nicholas Pooran’s impressive 63 runs off just 21 balls. MI’s innings began with Sharma and Rickelton, who formed a formidable partnership, amassing 143 runs for the first wicket in just 10.5 overs. Rickelton scored 83 runs off 32 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours. Sharma contributed 84 runs from 44 balls, including 7 sixes and 6 fours. Naman Dhir added 23 runs off 12 balls, while Will Jacks remained unbeaten with 10 runs. Rickelton was named Player of the Match.

With this victory against LSG, MI became the second team in IPL history to successfully chase a target of 200 or more runs on multiple occasions. This was the seventh instance where MI achieved a target of 200 or above in the IPL, and it marked their second such accomplishment this season.

MI has now surpassed both the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who have each achieved this feat 6 times. The Punjab Kings hold the record for the most successful chases of 200 or more runs, accomplishing this 11 times. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have achieved this milestone 5 times.
