IPL 2026: KKR Opts to Bowl First Against MI in Crucial Match

Mumbai, May 20: In a critical encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and chose to bowl first against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Eden Gardens. This match is a ‘do or die’ situation for KKR, who aim to stay in contention for the playoffs, while MI has already been eliminated from the race.

Regular captain Hardik Pandya returns to the MI lineup, but KKR has made no changes to their playing eleven.

Currently, KKR sits in eighth place on the points table with five wins out of twelve matches, while MI is at ninth, having lost eight out of twelve.

After winning the toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane stated, “We want to bowl first. We need to win our next two matches. Our focus is on the present. There were moments in the first half of the tournament where we could have capitalized better. Honestly, understanding the wicket is a bit tricky. We need to play good cricket for the full 40 overs. We’re going in with the same team.”

On the other hand, MI captain Hardik Pandya commented, “We would have also chosen to bowl first if we had won the toss. This pitch has been under covers for a while. We want to see how it behaves. We still need to step onto the field fully prepared, play good cricket, and enjoy the game. I’m back in the playing eleven.”

KKR’s playing eleven includes: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Wicketkeeper), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Kartik Tyagi, Varun Chakravarthy, and Saurabh Dubey.

MI’s playing eleven features: Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma (Wicketkeeper), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (Captain), Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Raghu Sharma.
