Indias Stance on Terrorism: A Call for Zero Tolerance from Allies, Says External Affairs Minister Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasizes Indias right to self-defense against terrorism, urging allies for a strong response during a recent event in Mumbai.

Mumbai, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar praised U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for paying tribute at the 26/11 memorial at the Taj Hotel during a recent reception in Mumbai. He emphasized India’s clear stance on its right to self-defense against terrorism and expressed expectations for zero tolerance from its allies.
Speaking at the ‘Freedom 250’ reception, which celebrated the 250th anniversary of American independence, Jaishankar highlighted the ongoing transformation in the global order and how countries are responding accordingly. He noted, “Secretary Rubio, your gesture at the 26/11 memorial is commendable for all of Mumbai and India. We welcome your administration’s decision to extradite Tahawwur Hussain Rana, one of the main conspirators of this heinous act. Our policy is clear: self-defense against terrorism is our right, and we expect our partner nations to show strict intolerance towards it.”
He continued, “As we celebrate this historic anniversary, it is natural to reflect on the future. The global order is undoubtedly undergoing significant changes, and each nation will prioritize its national interests. Expanding the scope of shared interests is key to strengthening our relationships during such times.”
Jaishankar also pointed out the new opportunities in trade, investment, technology, and energy within the India-U.S. partnership. He emphasized that regular dialogue and the identification of common interests will pave the way forward. Additionally, he mentioned both countries’ shared commitment to enhancing peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
“Our relationship has indeed come a long way. History bears witness to the support many Americans provided during India’s struggle for independence. Whether in infrastructure, education, food, agriculture, or technology, our partnership has made a tangible difference in India’s development. Conversely, Indian talent and skills have played a significant role in shaping the technological landscape in the U.S.,” he stated.
Jaishankar acknowledged that while there have been issues between the two nations, including differing perspectives on global challenges, their partnership has consistently grown over the decades, acquiring new dimensions. He cited initiatives like QUAD, Mission 500, Pax Silica, and Forge Initiative as notable examples of this evolution. The progress in energy, defense, and civil aviation sectors has indeed been remarkable.
Jaishankar concluded by reaffirming the importance of ongoing collaboration in addressing shared challenges and opportunities.
