Indias Economic Strength Will Depend on Inclusive Growth, Says Vice President Radhakrishnan

New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan stated on Saturday that India’s economic strength ultimately hinges on whether the benefits of growth reach every citizen and region. Speaking at the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave, he emphasized that true resilience in facing challenges is measured by ensuring no citizen or area is left behind. “GDP alone cannot be the sole indicator of development,” he remarked.

Radhakrishnan placed a strong emphasis on women’s participation in the inclusive agenda. He noted that access to education and economic opportunities will enable women to take on more leadership roles. “We aim to empower women by granting them the right to education, allowing them to empower themselves,” he said.

As India progresses from a developing economy to a developed one, Radhakrishnan highlighted the need for policymakers to focus not only on growth rates but also on inclusivity. He stated, “Inclusivity can be a means of enhancing our resilience in tough times,” urging that this capacity should not be viewed solely through the lens of financial markets or large infrastructure projects.

Improvements in financial inclusion and the distribution of welfare benefits demonstrate how social inclusion can strengthen an economy’s ability to withstand shocks. Radhakrishnan cited the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) architecture as a prime example, which has facilitated widespread financial inclusion and direct benefit transfers (DBT).

He also pointed out that over 250 million Indians have risen above the poverty line in the past decade. Radhakrishnan referred to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as India’s most significant tax reform.

In the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, India’s real GDP grew by 7.8%, up from a 6.9% increase in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. The real GDP for the first quarter of 2026-27 is estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore, compared to ₹75.46 lakh crore in the first quarter of 2025-26.
