Gifu, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s hockey team showcased a commanding performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Gifu, defeating Singapore 7-0 in their final Pool B match on Sunday. This victory allowed India to finish the group stage undefeated, securing a spot in the semifinals where they will face South Korea.
Played at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, India maintained control throughout the match, holding possession for 64% of the time. The team earned an impressive 28 penalty corners during the game. Five players contributed to the scoreline, while Sunelita Toppo stood out by scoring two goals.
Despite creating numerous opportunities and winning several penalty corners, India was unable to find the net in the first quarter. Singapore’s goalkeeper, Felisa Lai, along with her defense, effectively thwarted Indian attacks during the initial 15 minutes. However, the breakthrough came in the second quarter when captain Salima Tete opened the scoring with a field goal.
India quickly extended their lead. Sunelita Toppo converted a penalty corner to make it 2-0, and shortly after, she scored again. Goals from Lalremsiami and Rituja Pisal followed, allowing India to take a commanding 5-0 lead by halftime.
The dominance continued after the break. In the third quarter, Nikki Pradhan converted another penalty corner, increasing the score to 6-0. Singapore struggled to cope with India’s relentless pressure, while the Indian defense kept the opposition at bay.
In the final quarter, Deepika executed a brilliant drag-flick from a penalty corner, sending the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to seal the match at 7-0.
