Indian Athletes Shine at Asian Games with Silver and Bronze Medals

Servesh Kushare wins silver in mens high jump; Parul Chaudhary secures bronze in womens 3000m steeplechase at Asian Games 2026.

Nagoya, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Indian athletes made their mark at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Sunday. Servesh Kushare secured a silver medal in the men’s high jump, while Parul Chaudhary claimed bronze in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase.

Competing at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Kushare achieved a personal best jump of 2.25 meters. Although he matched the height of gold medalist Chao Hsuan-Fu from Chinese Taipei, Kushare finished second. Chao cleared the height on his first attempt, while Kushare needed two tries. The bronze medal went to South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo, who jumped 2.22 meters.

Kushare started strong, clearing 2.10 meters on his first attempt. He continued his momentum by successfully jumping 2.14 meters, 2.18 meters, and 2.22 meters, all on his first tries, maintaining his lead for a significant portion of the competition. Chao required two attempts to clear 2.18 meters but managed to secure the top position after clearing 2.25 meters on his first attempt.

After both athletes cleared 2.25 meters, the bar was raised to 2.28 meters. However, neither was able to clear this height despite three attempts, leaving Chao with the gold and Kushare with silver.

In the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, veteran athlete Parul Chaudhary made a remarkable comeback to earn a bronze medal. After finishing fourth in the 1500-meter race earlier, she broke her own national record with a time of 9:08.67. This performance made her the first Indian woman to finish the event in under 9:10.

Bahrain’s Yavi Winfred won gold with a games-record time of 9:04.36, while Kazakhstan’s Nora Tanui took silver with a time of 9:06.82. Another Indian athlete, Ankita, finished fourth with a time of 9:19.24.

Chaudhary stayed with the leading group from the start and was in contention for silver halfway through the race. However, she could not maintain her position, finishing 2.46 seconds behind Tanui.

This bronze medal marks Chaudhary’s third medal at the Asian Games. Previously, she won gold in the 5000 meters and silver in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
