Barpeta, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : Halicharan Narzary, a standout player in Indian football, has been selected for the prestigious Assam Gaurav Award, as announced by the Assam government on October 24, 2026. This recognition honors his significant contributions to the sport.
Narzary’s journey is particularly inspiring, having grown up in challenging circumstances with limited access to basic sports facilities. Despite these hardships, he showcased relentless determination and hard work, ultimately securing his place in the Indian national team and bringing pride to his country. His story has become a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes across India.
With a rich and extensive career in Indian football, Narzary began his professional journey in 2010 with Pailan Arrows. He later became part of Dempo SC and has represented several major clubs in the Indian Super League (ISL), including FC Goa, NorthEast United FC, Kerala Blasters, Chennaiyin FC, and Bengaluru FC.
Narzary was also part of the Hyderabad FC team that clinched the ISL title in the 2021-22 season. In 2026, he made a fresh start by joining Bodoland FC, his home region team, where he captained during the Durand Cup and scored four goals in a single match, capturing significant attention.
On the international stage, Narzary has represented India in the under-19 and under-23 teams. He made his senior debut in 2015 and has since played in 27 international matches. He was also a member of the Indian team that won the SAFF Championship in 2015 and the Intercontinental Cup in 2018, establishing a distinct identity in Indian football through his experience and aggressive playing style.
