Indian Finance Minister Meets Chilean Delegation to Strengthen Bilateral Trade

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman discusses strengthening bilateral trade with Chilean representatives and explores new opportunities.

New Delhi, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with former Chilean President and special envoy Eduardo Frei, along with a delegation from Chile and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), on Thursday in New Delhi. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade and exploring new opportunities between the two nations.

A post shared by the Finance Ministry on the social media platform X highlighted the significance of this meeting. Sitharaman expressed her concerns regarding the recent floods in Chile during her conversation with Frei.

Central to the discussions was the aim to reinforce economic ties, which included expediting the India-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and identifying additional avenues for collaboration with CAF. Given the existing engagements between CAF, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Export-Import Bank of India, the Finance Minister encouraged CAF to seek funding opportunities for projects involving Indian companies, particularly in critical minerals and renewable energy sectors.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Sitharaman also met with Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, including opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the financial services sector, renewable energy, the establishment of higher education institutions, and enhancing bilateral tourism.
