Indian Boxers Shine at Asian Games 2026, Return Home with Pride

New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxers returned home from the Asian Games 2026 with a remarkable performance, securing a total of six medals, including three gold and three bronze. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president, Ajay Singh, praised the team’s achievements and emphasized the need to build on this success.

During a press interaction, Singh expressed pride in the boxers’ results, noting that India surpassed boxing powerhouses like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and China in the medal tally. “The team performed exceptionally well, and it’s a source of great pride. However, we must avoid overconfidence and focus on addressing our weaknesses moving forward,” he stated.

Singh highlighted a notable shift in the perception of Indian boxing, mentioning that the country has now won medals in heavyweight categories, traditionally seen as a challenge. “We secured medals in the 80 kg and 90+ kg weight classes. We need to maintain this momentum,” he added.

Gold medalist Lovlina Borgohain shared her excitement, saying, “It feels incredible. Winning a medal and hearing the national anthem is every athlete’s dream. After 15 years of experience, I’ve faced many struggles, but I’ve become mentally stronger and learned to stay calm.”

Fellow gold medalist Parveen Hooda expressed satisfaction in contributing to India’s medal tally. “I worked hard, and the results are rewarding. After facing injuries post the last Asian Games, returning was tough, but I remained consistent in my training,” she said.

Ankush Panghal, who also clinched gold, noted, “This is my second gold medal of the year. I was determined to bring home a medal for my country, having already won gold at the Commonwealth Games.”

Bronze medalist Narendra Berwal shared his joy, stating, “Winning a medal feels great. This is my third major event medal this year, and I aim to perform even better at the World Championships in April 2027.”

Priya Ghanghas, who earned bronze in her first Asian Games, expressed her excitement. “Winning a medal here is a significant achievement. While I aimed for gold, I am satisfied with my performance,” she remarked.

Kapil Pokharia, another bronze medalist, reflected on the pressure of competition. “This was my first medal at the Asian Games, and it feels monumental. Competing at this level is challenging, but I was determined to contribute to our country’s success,” he said.

Overall, the Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2026 amassed a total of 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze, marking a successful outing for the nation.
