Colombo, August 2: Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a change in the schedule for India’s tour, reducing the duration of the warm-up match before the two-Test series by one day.
Initially planned as a four-day match, it will now take place over three days. Sri Lanka Cricket stated on Saturday, “Team India will now play a three-day warm-up game instead of the scheduled four-day match. This match will commence on August 7 at the NCC Grounds in Colombo.”
According to the announcement, the Indian team will arrive in Sri Lanka on August 4. The first Test will be held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, while the second match is scheduled at the Sinhalese Sports Club Stadium in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
The statement did not clarify why the match duration was shortened or which board proposed the change. Previously, the BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting August 15.
Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain has been included in the Test team for the first time. Experienced spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also returning to the Test setup for the first time since November 2025.
India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is back in the Test team after the home series against South Africa. However, the BCCI noted that his availability will depend on fitness clearance due to an injury sustained during the recent three-match ODI series in England.
Jadeja was sidelined due to a tennis elbow injury following the IPL 2026 season. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar is unavailable for the first Test due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the ODI at Lord’s, which has opened the door for Saransh Jain.
The Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka includes: Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Saransh Jain.
