New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Army has extended its congratulations to boxer Narendra Berwal, who returned home with a bronze medal from the 2026 Asian Games. Berwal, who serves as a Subedar in the Indian Army, delivered an impressive performance during the competition.
Celebrating his achievement, the Army shared a message on its social media platform, X, stating, “From the battlefield to the sports arena, Indian Army warriors continue to elevate the nation’s pride. General Dheeraj Seth, the Chief of Army Staff, along with all officers and soldiers, warmly congratulates Subedar Narendra Berwal for his outstanding performance at the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), raising the Indian flag high.”
Competing in the 90-kilogram category, Berwal secured the bronze medal, marking his second consecutive medal at the Asian Games. Despite his strong showing, he fell short in the semifinals against Kazakhstan’s boxer and current world champion Aibek Orlabek, leaving his gold medal aspirations unfulfilled. Berwal also clinched a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games and won silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
This year’s Asian Games marked a historic achievement for the Indian boxing team, which secured a total of six medals, including three golds, on Japanese soil. Amit Panghal won gold in the 80-kilogram category, while female boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda also claimed gold medals. Previously, India had won only two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, bringing the total to 21 golds among 85 medals overall. India finished fourth in the medal tally.
