Jaipur : Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Military Engineer Services (MES) of South Western Command of Indian Army came together to organize a two-day Seminar on ‘Quality of Construction’ on 27 & 28 Jul 2023.
A first of kind seminar was presided over by Lieutenant General A Arun, Chief of Staff, South Western Command and attended by Chief Engineer South Western Command and functionaries of Chief Engineer Jaipur Zone, Smt Kanika Kalia, Director, BIS, Jaipur and various ground level executives of Bureau of Indian Standards and Military Engineer Services.
The Seminar aimed at achieving better understanding and awareness of various standards in the field of construction towards improvement in quality of infrastructure development. Lieutenant General A Arun emphasized the importance of incorporating quality as a key parameter right at the level of planning and its deliberate pursuance right through execution ensuring the end product surpasses desired standards in terms of user aspirations, pace of construction and sustainability. He said that the Seminar is a step in the right direction towards greater synergy between the BIS and Military Engineer Services and promotes productive cooperation. Smt Kanika Kalia, Director, BIS, Jaipur expressed her gratitude and appreciation towards the Military Engineer Services for the initiative and assured more such interactions with the purpose of gaining from shared expertise. The event of first day included workshop on the existing standards related to building materials & construction and a visit to National Testing House of BIS Jaipur.
The second day of the seminar was presided over by Major General Vikram Gulati, Chief Engineer South Western Command and was attended by GOC 61 Sub Area and Station Commander. As part of the events on the second day, an interaction with various construction Companies and product manufacturers was organised to share and learn best practices in Quality Management. A Talk by BIS on its role and GRIHA ratings was also a part of the itinerary. In order to modernise the infrastructure being developed, a display of latest products and new technologies in the construction field by various Vendors was also organised. Chief Engineer South Western Command reiterated the importance of Quality and exhorted the executives to now implement the takeaways of the Seminar in their respective projects.
