India Secures Spot in T20 World Cup Final, Sets Multiple Records Against England

Mumbai, March 5: Team India has clinched a spot in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026. In a thrilling semi-final held at Wankhede Stadium, India defeated England by 7 runs. Chasing a target of 254 runs set by India, England fell short, scoring only 246 runs while losing 7 wickets. This match saw the establishment of several significant records, marking India’s fourth appearance in the finals, a historic achievement.

India has now become the team with the most final appearances in T20 World Cup history. The team previously reached the finals in 2007, 2014, and 2024. The match featured a total of 34 sixes, the highest ever recorded in a single T20 World Cup match. The previous record was 31 sixes in a match between West Indies and Zimbabwe earlier in this tournament. Additionally, the players from both India and England combined to hit 73 boundaries, setting another new record. The prior record was 61 boundaries in a match between England and South Africa during the 2016 T20 World Cup.

In the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026, a total of 499 runs were scored. This is only surpassed by the 517 runs made in a match between South Africa and West Indies in 2023. Jacob Bethel showcased outstanding batting skills, completing his century in just 45 balls, making him the fastest centurion for England in T20 World Cup history. He scored a remarkable 105 runs off 48 balls.

After losing the toss, India batted first, posting a score of 253 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the charge with an impressive 89 runs off 42 balls, while Shivam Dube contributed 43 runs from 25 balls. Despite Bethel’s century, England could only manage 246 runs, losing 7 wickets. India will face New Zealand in the title match on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
