
Naypyidaw, May 5: Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met with Myanmar’s Defense Minister General Htun Aung on Monday in Naypyidaw. The meeting focused on the current status of relations between the two nations. Admiral Tripathi is on a four-day official visit to Myanmar, which concludes on Tuesday.
During this visit, Admiral Tripathi discussed the existing state of India-Myanmar relations with General Htun Aung. They reviewed ongoing defense cooperation and explored areas for future collaboration. The discussions highlighted the importance of their defense partnership for regional peace and security.
The talks also covered ongoing joint activities and new avenues for collaboration. It is evident that the partnership between the two countries is strengthening, with shared perspectives on various issues.
On Sunday, Admiral Tripathi met with Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing, head of the Myanmar Navy’s Central Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw, head of the Training Command. They discussed enhancing cooperation between the navies, strengthening defense partnerships, and improving operational activities.
Both sides emphasized the need to enhance training and explore new opportunities for collaboration. Admiral Tripathi received a guard of honor at the Central Naval Command headquarters in Yangon.
He also visited the Myanmar Naval Training Command, where he handed over several projects developed with India’s assistance. He was briefed on the training facilities and ongoing training activities between the two nations.
Admiral Tripathi praised the work of the ‘Mobile Training Team’ and reaffirmed India’s commitment to enhancing Myanmar’s capabilities and professional cooperation. He also presented a containerized small arms simulator and a rigid inflatable boat, which will aid in maritime security in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Indian Navy, this visit further strengthens the long-standing and robust relationship between India and Myanmar, based on mutual respect, trust, and a shared vision for maintaining maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
